We’re back with a new 5×5 series to spotlight our brand new 9-to-5 Kit. We enlisted our friend and boss lady Emily Bastedo – the blogger behind the style + travel blog, Something Gold, Something Blue – to showcase the versatility of the amazing new kit of workwear essentials. Read on for a peek into Emily’s workweek and how she stays stylish from 9-to-5 and beyond.
Hey y’all! I am so excited to be teaming up with ELOQUII to style the new 9-to-5 Kit in this 5×5 challenge. As a cybersecurity consultant, no two days are alike, and the types of outfits I wear range from the traditional business formal attire to casual Fridays in jeans. After 6 years of this unpredictable work schedule, I look for versatile pieces that can be worn together or separate.
LOOK 1 | Monday: Executive Meetings
Most Monday mornings around 7AM, you can find me boarding a flight to meet with senior leadership of my company and my clients. To feel confident, my go-to is putting on a great suit. It allows me to establish my credibility and make a good first impression. This 9-to-5 Kit suit in navy is great because it allows me to have some fun with color without drawing attention away from the presentation or meeting I’m leading.
LOOK 2 | Tuesday: Meetings with IT Teams
Most work days, I’m in and out of meeting with IT and Business teams to discuss how to protect their customers’ credit card data—meaning, I can wear a more casual outfit to the office. In a recent “white-board” brainstorming session with clients, I wore the 9-to-5 Kit black pants with this playful polka dot top with statement sleeves. Having a great pair of black pants is my biggest wardrobe staple because they can be paired with bold prints, colors, or cuts while looking polished and professional. These black pants from the kit are absolutely amazing – the fabric is thicker and have more stretch than most work pants. I feel like I’m wearing leggings, but I still have that sleek, smooth, professional look.
LOOK 3 | Wednesday: Spending the Day working on Presentations
In addition to meetings, I spend a lot of time reviewing documents and creating presentations which can sometimes get boring (just being honest), but adding a pop of color in my outfit can help to brighten my day! For my Wednesday outfit, I started with the multi-colored printed tank from the 9-to-5 Kit because I was immediately drawn to its bold print and colors. The tank has all of the Kit’s colors, so I could have chosen 14 different ways to style this piece (no more standing in front of my closet saying I have nothing to wear!). I turned away from my go-to black this time, and paired it with the pink blazer and navy skirt.
LOOK 4 | Thursday: Fly Home + Drinks with the Girls
I usually fly back to Houston on Thursday afternoons and often arrive home in time to grab a drink with friends to catch up on the week, so I like to wear an outfit that can easily transition from work to play. When creating these day-to-night looks, I always try to find a neutral piece that can be “glammed up” with a quick change of shoes or jewelry. The Stretch Work Dress from the 9-to-5 Kit is the perfect canvas because the silhouette and color are classic enough for work, but with a change to a strappy jeweled shoe and statement earring, can be a fun look to grab a drink with the girls.
LOOK 5 | Friday: Working for the Weekend
Fridays are all about getting back into my home office in Houston, catching up on emails, and grabbing lunch with my local team. My office recently instituted a casual dress code on Fridays, which means I can wear jeans (woohoo!). The Olivia Sculpting Skinny Jeans paired with the Layering Top from the 9-to-5 Kit would be ideal for my office most Fridays; but if I have to give a presentation or want to have a bit more structure to the outfit, I’ll throw on a blazer (which instantly makes any outfit look more pulled together). Similar to the Kit’s pants, the blazer has stretch to it which allows me to move and not feel constricted.
