The Best Dress List: January Edition
So we’re knee deep in winter—and depending on your whereabouts, possibly snow—which makes the need for a little glitz and glamour is all the more, well, necessary. Thank you, award season, for providing so much in this arena. There’s something that really quells those winter doldrums when you see gorgeous head-to-toe looks walk the red carpet. And while holiday party season may be officially over, getting dressed up for an Oscars soiree—or just a date night—is not. Which brings us to our picks for this month’s “Best Dress List,” (see last month's edition here). Catching our eye: Cold (but not literally) shoulders, bold patterns, and little details that say a lot—like military-inspired buttons, ruffled hems and flared sleeves.
1. Exposed shoulders:

Whether off the shoulder or cut-outs, showing a bit of skin around the neckline is equal parts romantic and sexy. Best of all, this look transitions to spring beautifully.
2. Color (and we’ve got a thing for red):

The brighter, the better. How else can you beat winter’s dreary palette? Go bold, this isn’t a look to toe dip into—choose your favorite, bright hue.
3. Bold patterns:

Chevron, stripes, florals—bright shades and eye-catching designs are total standouts. Great for layering under jackets, scarves, or anything else you need to bundle under. That peek of pattern is a welcomed surprise.

This simple detail gives your look a dose of sweetness and romance ideal for date nights—or any night, really. We like a little and a lot when it comes to this look, whether it’s simply on the hem of a dress or all the way down the front.

You know we’ve got a thing for unapologetic “look at me” shine, but no season calls for it more loudly than winter. So don’t retire your holiday sequin favorites, we think they’re just what the season called for.
6. Flared sleeves:

Instant drama with the flick of your wrist (no actual drama needed). Plus, there’s something undeniably regal about a trumpeted sleeve we can’t get enough of.
7. Military style details:

Hardware, in general, is a nice tomboy touch—the glamourous impact a welcomed side effect. On a minidress the button look is just so cool.
8. Shirt dresses:

Because, January: It’s cold, you may just want to stay in your silkiest, coziest nightshirt—here’s the closest thing that’ll turn heads in a, well, much better way.
