How to Wear It: Transitional Dressing

It may be winter, but don’t let the grey skies get you down! Winter and the start of the new year is the best time to refresh your wardrobe, update your style likes, and rock some amazing outfits. There may be lower temps, but fashion stops at no storm!

We’re here to help you learn how to dress for this season and tackle transitional dressing. Going from the holidays into the dead of winter is hard—we get it—but we’re here to answer all your questions and provide some great outfit inspo for your next winter look. Welcome to Transitional Dressing 101.

Layer, Layer, Layer!

While it may seem like a mute point, there are so many ways to get creative with winter dressing with your layers. Have a sleeveless dress from the summer and want to repurpose it? Now’s the time! Add a contrasting long sleeve turtleneck or sweater on underneath (we love the crisp contrast of a black shirt and bright winter white dress), and BAM—instant chic!

For a dressier look, take your favorite button down or v-neck patterned dress and simply add a white turtleneck underneath or a high-collared tshirt—you’ll stay nice and warm, plus elevate the dress to a whole new platform. Add a statement necklace or contrasting belt to complete the look. For the extra daring, add some skinny jeans on underneath the dress for a SoHo sidewalk look. NYFW here you come!

Embrace the Dark (but don’t forget to let in the light!)

Having the sunset set at 5pm (or 4:43pm in our offices in NYC) is no fun, but winter dressing is all the better when you embrace the beauty of the winter colors. Dark blues, olives, greys, faded creams — combine to create a sophisticated palette for your winter wardrobe. But don’t get bogged down in the darkness! Fashion can always be found in the darkest of times, if one remembers to turn on the light! Thrown on a white moto jacket over a dress or pantsuit, add a bright gold earring to catch the winter rays, or pair an outfit back to a metallic bootie to sparkle in the snow.

However winter finds you this year, we’ll make sure to have you covered in all your transitional dressing needs—online and in our stores! Let in the light, add some layers, and challenge yourself to try a new style! Check out our newest arrivals for more inspo, and be sure to tag your outfits on social media with #XOQ!
