Blogger Spotlight: Sometimes Glam

If you want to get our attention, post your ELOQUII looks to #XOQ on Instagram. That’s how we found Crystal, the blogger behind Sometimes Glam. Her looks are a mix of Audrey Hepburn, California cool, and a whole lotta chic. We had to know all about her glamorous life. Get to know Crystal in this week’s Blogger Spotlight!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I’m all about elevating your ordinary – and encouraging women to create glamorous moments in their own lives. It’s amazing what the perfect outfit can do! Sometimes Glam was born from that – I hope to inspire women to find their own personal style and go after the life they want!

How did you choose the name of your blog?

I’ve always joked that my life is glamorous – I get the chance to travel a lot for my company and it sounds so fancy! But really, it’s only glamorous sometimes. Sometimes I’m in a bikini sitting poolside in Vegas with a cocktail… and sometimes I’m in old, ripped leggings, a stained tee, my hair in a bun while I’m working under a deadline and haven’t showered or eaten in god knows how long. It’s truly the summation of my life!.

Who is your biggest fashion inspiration?

I try to draw inspiration from everywhere – sometimes it’s film (Devil Wears Prada, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Sleeping Beauty, even Frozen!) to architecture and the feel of a city I fall in love with when I travel (the creative-tech vibe in San Francisco, the neon feel to LA). I also am a lover of Valentino and Marchesa. As design houses, they embody everything I think a lady should be: sophisticated, cool, romantic with a hint of toughness.

Tell us about your beauty/skincare routine!

If there’s one thing I love more than fashion, it’s makeup and skin care. I am a Sephora junkie! Right now, I’m using the Glam Glow masks once a week (Youthmud followed by ThirstyMud) and daily, I use my Clairsonic Mia with the Kate Sommerville Gentle Cleanser. I love the Caudalie toner (it’s a spa in a bottle) followed by Olay’s Regenerist moisturizer.  And I can’t go to bed without my Midnight Recovery Oil from Keil’s.

For makeup, I swear by YSL’s Fusion Ink foundation for my normal-combo skin. I’m obsessed with my Charlotte Tilbury quad in Golden Goddess and her lipstick in Bitch Perfect. I won’t leave the house without spraying Urban Decay’s All-Nighter setting spray

What do you look for when buying a new staple piece? A trend piece?

For staple pieces, I look for fit above anything else. As a pear shape, it’s paramount that a shirt fit me well (the shoulders are everything – a shoulder seam that hangs too low means a sloppy look) and that pants are the perfect length – my favorite is ankle length to show off my shoes!

For a trend piece, I need to make sure it makes sense with my core look. I want a good price point and I want something that will take my foundational items and give them a breath of fresh air by either bringing in a new color, hemline or texture.

What trends are you most looking forward to this spring?

I can’t wait to incorporate: thicker obi belts (SO flattering!), palm tree prints (perfect for that casual by-the-ocean vibe), one shoulder tops (every pear shaped girl should swear by these!), lots of white (which takes a TON of commitment - I’m ready)

What’s the biggest fashion risk you’ve ever taken?

Oh boy… I seem to recall a pair of metallic silver flared jeans and neon pink ruffled tank top paired with Spice Girl-esque sneakers.

… I can’t believe I just shared that.

Blogger/vlogger shoutout – who do you love to read/watch and why?

I absolutely adore Rachel of Lovely in LA (because she is!), Sarah Rae Vargas (she is so unapologetically honest and it’s so refreshing), Cynthia of Flight of the Fat Girl (she does street-meets-chic so well!) and Shana Moore who is crusading #ThePaintedLipsProject (this girl could change the world!)

We loved getting to know you, Crystal! Catch up with her on Sometimes Glam, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
