Blogger Spotlight: Curvy Corp Girl

#XOQ is our favorite place to hang out on the internet. Your style, confidence, and creativity are energizing! That’s how Antoinette from The Curvy Corp Girl caught our eyes, because she has the ability to amp up office style in the most fashionable way. She was a natural choice for our Blogger Spotlight, selfishly because we wanted to get all her tips & tricks. Here’s what she had to say:

ELOQUII: Who inspires your style and why?

Antoinette: I didn’t realize it until recently, but my style inspiration comes from my mother. I tell this story in my blog, and I would say, it’s one of my favorite “A-ha” moments of my adult hood. It all started with the day I bought a pair of leather gloves. At the time I was strolling down the street and saw a pair of fabulous leather gloves in the window. I ran into the store and happily bought them and flung them into my purse…delighted with my purchase. When I got home, I emptied out my bag and went to place my new purchase in my accessories basket. And that is when I saw it. I easily had 25 pairs of leather gloves staring back at me. I don't remember having all these gloves…why would I buy so many..its 70 degrees in Houston. And it struck me, “I get it from my mama."

E: We love your ability to incorporate colors and patterns into your everyday wardrobe! What are some tips you have for staying stylish in the corporate world?

A: My tip actually lies in a little acronym “TAG”. It is an acronym I use as my motivation when I shop. It stands for TRY it on , AND always, GO with a good fit.  This may sound like common sense, but when you are dressing for Corporate America, the fit of your clothes is what helps present you as a package. Add having beautiful curves and you are out there solving the Rubix Kube of fashion. No matter how great you think you look in the dressing room mirror, it is important to have a few checkpoints, like asking yourself: are you covered, can you sit, and could you meet the CEO.

E: What’s #1 on your spring must-have list?

A: A Pencil Skirt. For so long the pencil skirt has been reduced to three colors: black, white and brown and the expectation is that you wear it one place: the office. But, now the pencil skirt has color, it has different lengths, and it has the ability to catch eyes on a woman’s curves. I dress a pencil skirt up or down almost once a week.

E: Your makeup is always so on point! Could you walk us through your beauty routine?

A: That is such a sweet thing to say! I have a secret to share on this. I own a creative agency that is focused in fashion and with this comes the opportunity to meet talented individuals in the industry. One of those talented people is Kat Tinapple, based here in Houston. Many of my pictures you will find, Kat has worked her magic on me. However, I have to give myself a bit of credit, because also in a number of my pics, I have done my makeup myself. For me it all starts with a clean canvas, and I don’t go a night or morning without 3 Oil of Olay products: Regenerist Luminous brightening cream cleanser, Minimizing Skin Toner and Complete All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15– Sensitive. After that a little primer from Hourglass, Bare Minerals’ Bareskin for my foundation, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta swept on my cheeks, Le Volume de Chanel Waterproof on my eyes and Hourglass Lip Treatment on my lips. I get through my whole routine in 10 minutes usually in the morning.

E: What’s the biggest fashion risk you’ve ever taken?

A: This may sound boring, but wearing a t-shirt to work. I have worked in two large conservative companies, so the word t-shirt is never said nor does it enter the building. But one day I was feeling bold and I mixed a grey t-shirt with a black skirt, and black cardigan, pearls, and a silk black, grey and white scarf. I thought for sure I was going to get pulled aside and admonished, but in fact the compliments came rolling in.

E: Blogger/vlogger shoutout—who do you follow and why?

A: This is such a hard question, because I spend at least 2 hours winding down reading many blogs.

1- Corporate Catwalk I get inspiration from Olivia. There isn’t a day on her blog where I find her voice to be relatable as well as her fashions. 2- Girl with Curves —Simply put—Tanesha is a girl after my own heart. I find me always nodding my head “yes” as I read her blog. And she is a business woman—I would wear every single piece in her line of clothing. 3- Marriott on the Move I stumbled on this blog more than a year ago…and
