You wouldn’t know it but this month’s Spotlight talent is new to modeling. At 42 years old, Rachael Bohm continues to go outside what she knows and test her abilities. Her Down Syndrome doesn’t hold her back and you’ll see what I mean when you hear what she’s taking on now – from computer skills to a yoga practice to experimenting with new fashion trends. - Jodi
Rachael Bohm Keeps Life Interesting
Fashion fan Rachael Bohm is always up to something new. Whether that’s traveling up and down the East Coast, getting on Facebook, or acing our photo shoot; she’s ready and willing to do it all, even with Down Syndrome.
On set, Rachael mastered a few time-honored model poses including the shoulder pop, the heel kick and the graceful laugh. Other than modeling in a student fashion show decades ago, this was her first time in front of the camera. Yet her boldness comes as no surprise given this spotlight-lover’s penchant for taking on new challenges without hesitation. “Rachael has no fear,” says her mom, Gail. While Rachael lives with Down Syndrome, she doesn’t let that stop her from living her best – and most stylish – life.
These days, Rachael is testing her limits learning new things – in addition to modeling for ELOQUII – like starting a yoga practice and studying computer skills to get connected to friends on Facebook. She keeps in mind constant encouragement from her family, who say, “Try harder. Push your limits.” With this diligent work ethic, Rachael often says to her mom, “Don’t be nervous, mom. I can handle that.”
Now in her second year of retirement in Maryland, she’s usually spotted wearing activewear for full days consisting of either pick-up ball, bowling, indoor tennis or swimming. For special occasions, however, Rachael has always had a flair for fashion – especially dresses.
It turns out, when she’s felt her best she’s often been wearing dresses. First, as Maid of Honor at her sister Jessica’s wedding two years ago in NY “I wore a short, sassy purple dress,” Rachael cheerfully recalls.
Second, at the glamorous prom event in Florida hosted by the Tim Tebow Foundation, Night to Shine. She arrived on the red carpet donning an ELOQUII sequin dress and segued into a night of “dinner, dancing and limo rides,” she cheers.
And, last, during our NY-based photo shoot. “I was feeling good that day,” she remembers from the photo shoot. “I loved the blue dress.” ELOQUII’s wide-necked printed number made her most comfortable and the red, cold-shoulder dress with an asymmetrical hem stood out for another reason. Rachael’s mom shares, “It was very new for her. She wouldn’t have tried that style normally but it really worked for her!”
As she styles her closet for an exciting and always-changing life, our Spotlight model admits to channeling one of her style icons: Katy Perry. Like the pop superstar, Rachael exudes effervescence and strength. And like her other style icon – sister Jessica – she’s a fan of ELOQUII’s new collections!
What was your first ELOQUII purchase? A black and gold dress last December. We realized we were ahead of the trend when we later saw it featured on “The Today Show”!
Where do you wear ELOQUII to? Drama class and social club.
What style are you most excited to try in 2017? More off-the-shoulder and strapless styles.
What is one of your proudest moments? Working for 23 years was a major accomplishment. I started at the accounting office when it was pretty new and I was a part of it as it grew.
